Anyone know how the prices compare to a Starbucks outside of the airport?
I've seen people complaining about the prices on social media even though Starbucks at LBA is a franchise owned by SSP at LBA. So all the same old arguments apply to the price structure as we've discussed already.

Folk complain about the prices because they are high! It's irrelevant who has the franchise. A rip off by SSP is still a rip off.

It's a captured market. Every food and beverage outlet at LBA is owned by SSP apart from Greggs which is the point I was making. So not necessarily the fault of Starbucks even though its their brand. Personally I don't understand why people complain. You have two choices and rather than complaining, just don't use it if you think it's too pricey.

Representatives from AENA have arrived from Spain and are on a tour of the airport today.
With Central Search and the main Duty Free nearing completion, the lack of updates is getting pretty noticeable. A full CGI fly through might be an unnecessary expense, but standard photo progress shots cost practically nothing to share. It feels like the communications team has gone completely quiet on us. Where are you LBA???

When they arrived i bet they all said "OMG what have we taken on here" 🤣
The contrast between the UK and Spain is night and day. Spanish airports benefited from massive long-term state investment through Aena, whereas the UK government has historically left aviation infrastructure entirely to the private sector. You only have to walk through their terminals to see the stark difference in quality.

They also have a big advantage of having plenty of space to develop and a more relaxed planning policy, they also just get on and do things there……..You not only see it in airports but in their train and tram networks and the road infrastructure - years ahead of the U.K.

Perhaps it is AENAs policy not to give updates and go public until there is an actual completion to report. Perhaps they want a more professional approach with less of the silly stuff on FB. There does seem to have been less publicity since they took control. LUFCs owners follow the same policy. Say nowt until done, just in case in the end, something untoward happens to create a delay or it diesn't happen at all.

On a seperate note, today LBA sent me a list of UK airport update articles that come out weekly. There has been nothing on LBA for a while. Today, finally, there was!! Imagine my horror when reading the article I found the entire script was about DSA buying its ATC training equipment. Absolutely nothing to do with LBA and actually, quite offensive to anyone of an LBA persuasion. Perhaps the editor is a DSA supporter and having fun at LBAs expense by listing a DSA article under the Leeds Bradford heading.

AENA knew all about LBA before buying 51% of it. They have been here before and no doubt they will visit again in the future. If they had bought us sooner we might have ended up with a nice Spanish style terminal with posh tiles throughout. I wonder what they made of our open, industrial ceilings, and slatted wooden seating in the extension?

I think you will find thats with every form of transport in spain, the modern world, the country is in a different league compared to here , everytime i return home i cant believe how backwards here is, almost 3rd world and in many ways now!

Yes spains road infrastructure is excellent, they dont mess about they just get on with their road building programs, and the new roads that are laid are smooth, spacious and clean on the eye with proper road markings plus at night their roads are far easier to drive on due to them been so well lit with proper cats eyes and flashing arrows on the bends, not the eyesore rubbish of raised curbs, narrowed juncs to accomadate cycle lanes, dodgy patch up jobs and pot holes etc we get here. For me i absolutely love driving in spain.
as an example in just 5 weeks they have constructed 2 new slip roads that join and leave the n332 road to the villajoyosa/benidorm hospital plus the hospital itself is undergoing a large extension. Now imagine how long that would take here to do.
In alicante itself one of the large roads that passes through it used to have 3 trouble spot roundabouts with heavy congestion, within 6 months they constructed 3 dual carriageway tunnels under each roundabout, so basically traffic over and under and linked with slip roads. Can you ever imagine them doing that at the horsforth roundabout!🤣

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
