Use this prefix for new threads for Manchester Airport
March statistics are in post #1,334 and here is my analysis of the top 25 routes by passengers and percentage increase.

Movements for April, according to my daily logs, are up by 2.20%

I'll hopefully have the official airport stats by the 10th May.

Okay, I'm back and starting to catch-up on my backlog of statistical reports.

Firstly here are my calculations for load-factors on selected routes:

I'm rather playing catch-up at the moment due to a combination of factors, however here is another set of data for Manchester for April, based on the CAA records:

i know this thread is mainly about passengers but do we know what's driving the enormous freight increases? It's not as though there's ben heaps of additional long-haul widebodies to stimulate the market or is the change of type for Emirates enabled more freight to be carried ex-Manchester rather than sent by road to other airport?

That's a very good question and one that I would also like to hear the answer to.

The answer is increased deployment of the Boeing 777, a magnificent underbelly freight-hauler. The A380 in particular is especially poor on this metric, with one relatively small hold needing to accommodate luggage for two full deckloads of passengers. Operators frequently using B777's (and A350's) at MAN lately include UAE, QTR, ETD, CPA, SIA, PIA, VIR.

On the downside, it does show just how much MAN freight is lost to trucking to other airports in more peaceful times.

I asked Mr Co-Pilot of Microsoft Airways the differential between A380 and 777 - 37 cubic metres then convert that nto tonnage.

"37 m³ ≈ 7.4 tonnes (typical airline cargo density)" - that would only equate to 1,332 tonnes on a 3 daily basis. The increase is almost 3,000 tonnes. I'm not sure the extra 1,600 tonnes could be explained by adding a couple of flights a week on frequency or going A350 to 777 on some routes bearing in mind that we have lost 2 based A330s by Aer Lingus.

Hopefully this is an economic pointer that a tidy amount of money can made on cargo which may make other airlines re-evaluate routes as cargo won't mind going circuitous routes to a destination even if the human cargo does

Another month goes past and here are my calculations for load-factors on specific routes in May. As always, please remember that the Addis Ababa flight calls at either Geneva or Marseilles - depending upon the day of the week - and therefore Manchester possibly has only about 50pc of the available seats allocated to it.

With July having now gone, here is my take on the numeric movements that my records give:

July 2025 - 19,793
July 2026 - 20,711

Difference - 4.64pc

Hopefully the official airport statistics will be out within the next few days.

I'm currently away with family, however I will produce my usual monthly report as soon as possible - although it may be the weekend before I have been able to do all the work necessary.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
