Let's hope Wales qualify for the World Cup and then they might have an increase.

Well to my disappointment WestJet has followed the route of requiring an email to be entered before finding seat selection, and only allowing a maximum of 6 people per booking without a group booking, so individual loads can’t really be individually tracked. Luckily it’ll be a breeze on the CAA stats

It would be a good boost during that period especially as Wales would be scheduled to play in Toronto. Would also be excellent PR if the airport was able to persuade the FAW to use the route to travel out there as well. WestJet do offer Salt Lake City, where Wales would be based if they qualify, via a codeshare with Delta but Delta do offer SLC from Heathrow 5 weekly. Interestingly the flight to Toronto on the 11/6/26 is around 3 times as expensive as the days before that, average £254 on the 11th its £709 atm prices then go back to the £254 mark one way but at the end of June go up to £324 and above one way.
I also think that the World Cup may well be a double edged sword in that the price of accommodation could put people off travelling in that period.

Well sadly there'll be no Welsh presence at the World Cup this summer as Wales lost to Bosnia on penalties.

To be fair, even if they had won last night they were unlikely to beat Italy in the next round.

Have you tried the app?

Had an email from WestJet changing my flight times in September. The departure from Cardiff remains 11.35 but the arrival in Toronto is now 14.45. It was 14.30 so they've added 15 minutes. Flight time now 8 hours 10 minutes instead of 7 hours 55 minutes. I assume there must be an operational reason for this, I don't think the inbound times have changed though.

With just a few weeks until this routes takes off I’ve been looking at the seat selection for the first few flights. There does look to be quite a lot of empty rows based on what I’ve observed. I know basing the load factor from pre-selected seats isn’t perfect, but I somewhat expected more seats to be booked out by now. Hope the sales are doing ok.

Its possible that many haven't selected their seats and won't until check in. Just as an example. For my recent flight to Australia with BA most of the seats were free on the seatmap until a few days before my flight when they were all filled up I expect as BA allocated the seating.

On some Ryanair routes from Leeds the selected seats the day before an evening flight can even be a third of what you see shortly before the flight. I wouldn’t worry too much at this point

It was mentioned in the media some weeks ago, that Westjet and CWL, were quite satisfied with the bookings so far. I wonder if it looks worse because the outbound flight from CWL will have a maximum of 174 passengers. Perhaps loadings will look a lot better, if some of our English friends use the airport to attend the World Cup.

Tbh i wouldn't be surprised if the World Cup puts people off from going to Toronto because of the high prices of accommodation.

4 days to go now.
The last time Cardiff Airport launched a new scheduled long haul route (Qatar Airways) the inaugural flight was attended by the First Minister of Wales and Secretary of State for Wales. It'll be interesting to see how many dignitaries (i expect the airport board etc will be there) there'll be from Welsh government and UK government if at there'll be any at all compared to the launch of Qatar Airways. Politicians love a good photo opportunity but I suspect that WestJet and Toronto may not have the glamour of a Middle East airline.

Given the new Government are still finding its feet, and this route was secured under the previous Labour Government I very much doubt there will be a Ministerial presence on Saturday. I don't think it's anything to do with the fact that this routes is not as "glamorous" as a route to the Middle East on a major US hub.

Looking at the seatmaps atm for the inaugural flights. The inbound flight Premium is not onsale so assume it's sold out.
Economy theres 50 seats free out of 162 seats but the flight isn't due out for another 12 hours so still time for people to check in.
Outbound flight from Cardiff.
Premium has 6 seats free of 12. Economy has 13 free of 162 but I do believe the flight is restricted so some of the blocked seats will be due to that. Still time for people to check in and select a seat and potentially upgrade to Premium.
I believe the restriction for the Cardiff-Toronto is 157? Total seats 174 (12 Premium, 162 Economy).

My son is looking to fly out next month, earlier there was one seat available on his preferred date.
Good to hear!

And here's the aircraft that'll operate tomorrow's Toronto flight from Cardiff Airport C-GRAX an 8 year old 737 MAX8 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇨🇦😀✈️

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
