Bristol: Airport Retail, Food & Drink Outlets Thread

Use this prefix for new threads for Bristol Airport
Hi Merchant!

The New Aspire Plus Lounge as it is known in the new extended lounge has been created and is aimed for 'the Business Traveller' as the other exec lounge let any old tom dick or harry in really.

The new lounge is very impressive with a bill to go with it if you want to use it! So hopefully the regular Business Travellers will now be able to use the lounge they are entitled to.

Many thanks easy_brs.

Do you know if passengers travelling with KLM , say, from BRS (initially via Cityhopper to AMS) to Vancouver in business class would be entitled to entry to the Aspire Plus lounge on the basis of their class of travel?

The Aspire Plus does seem more akin to the type of lounge many airlines themselves provide for their premium passengers at airports around the world.

Your welcome Yokel (sorry I mis-addressed you in the previous post)

Yes they would be entitled to it as that is EXACTLY why it was constructed as the airport were getting many complaints about people who were entitled to the lounge being turned away for the 'normal' business lounge because anyone could use it. So what they have done is if you want to use the orriginal one, you would pay i believe £19.99 if you walk up and pay there and then which is affordable for many the traveller, weather for business or leisure. The new one is £39.99 walk up price UNLESS you have a frequent traveller card then you will be allowed entry free of charge. Also like you rightfully say if you are in a certain class of travel even as a one off with no frequent traveller card you would still be allowed entry. So they have upped the price to deter more people for paying on entry for the new lounge

Hope this makes sense Yokel!!!

Yes, your post makes perfect sense. Many thanks.

M and S Simply Food

At the airport today I saw a licensing notice for M and S Simply Food attached to the main arrivals area door.

Is this a new outlet? I can't remember seeing it before.

Looking at the BRS website, these are the non cafe, restaurant and bar retail outlets shown:

Landside
W H Smith

Airside
W H Smith
World Duty Free
Dixons
Accessorize
JD
Traveller
Superdrug
The Bookshop
Claires

I believe there was an M&S Simply Food in the fly-through video of the new arrivals hall which is being built in the western terminal extension below the new security concourse. Certainly looking forward to it, will come in handy!

Many thanks, tpm.

It will be good to have some more shops landside. I kinda miss the more-even split BRS used to have in the earlier days of the new terminal.

Looking at the airport website there are just four outlets landside:

WH Smith
Costa
Cafe Ritazza and
Soho Coffee.

Airside features:

Brunel Bar and Kitchen
Dexters Restaurant
Cabin
Burger King
Soho Coffee
Starbucks

plus the nine non food/drink outlets I mentioned in my earlier post above.

There are also the two Aspire lounges.

WH Smith

I looked into the terminal this afternoon and discovered a new WH Smith to the right of the main entrance door in departures 'landside'. It seems to have taken some of the space used for public seating. The larger WH Smith further along the landside area in the arrivals section is still operating, as are the WH Smith 'airside' and the The Bookshop at WH Smith airside according to the airport website, although there is no mention of the new WH Smith in the departures area. Seems a lot of WH Smith outlets.

The current state of play for retail and refreshment outlets appears to be this:

Airside
World Duty Free
Accessorize
Dixons
JD Sports
Traveller
Superdrug
Claire's
WH Smith
The Bookshop at WH Smith

Dexters restaurant
Brunel Bar and Kitchen
(C) Cabin
Burger King
Soho Coffee
Starbucks Coffee

Aspire Lounge
AspirePlus Lounge

Landside
M&S Simply Food
WH Smith (x 2)

Costa Coffee
Cafe Ritazza

Wetherspoons?

Has BRS ever had a McDonalds franchise?
I can't remember one. I'm 99% sure there has never been a McDonalds. I'm not a devotee of McDonalds but is Burger King, which is at the airport, something similar?

I do use Wetherspoons on occasions which is why I mentioned them earlier.

Yes they are similar but there will be a lot of people like me who'd prefer McDonalds so i guess the choice at the airport would be good for customers.

Yes me too and wetherspoons would be a good addition

I have always said that a kebab shop in departures would do a roaring trade. Obviously the shop would be modernised and chic.

BRS lounges

There is an ongoing discussion in the CWL forum regarding the lounge at that airport.

I wonder if anyone has used the Aspire or AspirePlus lounge at BRS. Entry costs from £20.99 and from £29.99 respectively.

Both lounges seem to provide hot breakfasts and a limited range of hot meals later in the day, together with a large variety of lighter options, snacks and treats some of which are exclusive to the Aspire Plus lounge. There is also a wide range of beverages including alcoholic.

Both lounges are operated by Swissport and the AspirePlus is strictly for adults only and appears to be more 'up-market' (my term, not theirs). Neither will allow 'stag' or 'hen' groups under any circumstances.

If anyone has used either of these lounges I'd be interested in their opinion. Also does anyone know to which lounge KLM business-class travellers are directed?

The Bristol Post did an article last week on the shops and 'eateries'/'drinkeries' at BRS.

They still can't find up-to-date pictures of the airport though. Their apron shot that accompanies the article features a Continental Boeing 757 that ceased to operate to BRS eight years ago.

Odd timing to do a feature like this as a number of the food outlets will be changing in the coming months. Slow news during August I guess?!

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours

Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
